Do I have to apply in person?
Yes, you must submit the visa application form in person. The embassy does not accept forms sent by fax, regular mail, or email.
How to book an appointment?
To apply for Poland A-Type Airport Transit Visa, book your appointment using the e-konsulat system and select the appropriate category based on your travel purpose.
Remember to apply for a visa at least two weeks before your planned departure.
You must arrive on time with all required documents.
Work Visa
For work visas, register on www.e-konsulat.gov.pl (Nigeria → Abuja → National Visa – register form → National visa – work).
Appointments are allocated weekly through automated drawing. If selected, you’ll be informed via email. Registered applications remain valid for subsequent drawings, so there is no need to register again. You must arrive on time, and changing the assigned date is not possible.
Poland A-Type Airport Transit Visa Documents Needed
To get a Poland A-type visa, you must meet one of these criteria:
- You’re only staying in the airport transit area and won’t leave it. This visa doesn’t let you stay in the Schengen area.
- You’re a citizen of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, or Sri Lanka.
You don’t need an A-type visa if you:
- Have a diplomatic passport.
- Be a close family member of an EU citizen.
- Hold a C-Type or D-Type visa or a residence permit from an EU Member State.
- Have certain residence permits from Andorra, Canada, Japan, San Marino, or the USA.
- Have a valid visa from a European Economic Area country, Canada, Japan, or the USA, or return from these places after using such a visa.
Required list of Documents:
- A filled visa application form via e-konsulat, printed and signed.
- A recent 3.5 x 4.5 cm color photo meeting specific criteria.
- A passport issued within the last ten years, valid for at least three months after your expected return, with two blank visa pages.
- A copy of the passport’s personal data page and photo.
- Health insurance is valid in the Schengen area for at least EUR 30,000.
- An ID document copy confirming residence in the consular district of application.
- Proof of onward travel from the transit area (e.g., plane ticket).
Evidence of no intention to enter Schengen countries.
When applying for a child’s visa:
- Written parental consent, notarized if applicable.
- Parents’ passport originals and copies.
- The child’s birth certificate is original and copied.
- Separate application if the child is listed in the parent’s passport.
Please Note:
- Apply for a visa at a consulate or embassy in your residential consular district.
- Additional documents might be requested.
- An interview may be required but not always.
- A-type visa restricts leaving the airport transit area.
How much does it cost?
The cost for the visa is 80 euros, and the visa application fee is non-refundable regardless of the consul’s decision.
What is the waiting time?
The waiting time for the visa decision is typically within 15 calendar days. However, in exceptional cases, the decision-making period can be extended up to 30 or 60 days.
How to collect your document
To collect your documents, Visit the Embassy at 12:45 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays, or Fridays carry along your payslip, and pick up your visa between 2:00 pm and 3:00 pm. If you can’t go yourself, send a representative with a signed authorization letter.
How to appeal for Poland Visa refusal
You can request a reconsideration of your visa application if you disagree with the consul’s decision. You must apply at the office that issued the decision within 14 days of receiving it. The application fee is 80 euros. Please note that appeals cannot be made by mail or through delivery.
You or your representative must visit the Embassy between Monday – Friday from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm without an appointment, bring with you the required documents, pay the fee of 80 EUR, and present your case. If 14 days have already passed, you’ll need to schedule a new appointment online.
What happens if I need to leave the transit zone for any reason
If you need to leave the transit zone at a Polish airport for any reason, there are specific implications depending on your visa status:
- A-Type Airport Transit Visa Holders: If you hold an A-Type Airport Transit Visa, you are not permitted to leave the airport’s transit zone. This visa only allows you to remain within the international transit area of the airport and does not grant entry into Poland or any other Schengen countries. If you exit this zone, you will need to have a valid Schengen visa or another type of visa that allows entry into Poland.
- Schengen Visa Holders: If you possess a valid Schengen visa, you may leave the transit zone and enter Poland or travel to other Schengen countries. This is because a Schengen visa allows for free movement within the Schengen area, including entering Poland from the airport.
- Consequences of Leaving Without Proper Visa: Exiting the transit zone without the appropriate visa can lead to serious consequences, such as being denied boarding for your onward flight or facing legal issues upon attempting to re-enter the transit area.
