Entry Requirements for British Citizens
If you’re British, at the UK border you will need to show your passport as evidence of British citizenship.
If you are from Gibraltar, instead of a passport, you will be allowed to present your Gibraltar identity card.
You might also have to demonstrate who you are and where you came from if you are coming from Ireland to England, Scotland or Wales. You can prove it with your passport, UK citizenship certificate, driving license, or any other evidence of who you are and your British nationality.
Entry Conditions for EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein Nationals.
You can only enter the UK if you are from an EU member state, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein,n and prove one of the following:
- Passport
- Irish passport card
- National identity card (if you are a citizen of one of these countries)
but there are regulations to use national identity cards. It has to be valid throughout your time in the UK and you have to satisfy some criteria such as:
- Have settled or been settled under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS).
- A family permit or Frontier Worker Permit is in place.
- You are a Swiss national and on a special visa to Switzerland.
If you haven’t had a decision yet on your EUSS application, then you can still use your national ID card to enter the UK once you’ve been assured that your application is approved.
Entry Requirements for Non-EU/EEA Nationals
Non-EU, Swiss, or EEA citizens: you will need a passport to enter the UK. You need a passport valid for the entire time you will be staying.
More often than not, you’ll also require a visa depending on your visit. For example:
