UK Establishes New Visa Application Centre in Lagos To Provide Better Service To Nigerian Candidates

The United Kingdom (UK) opened the biggest Visa Application Centre in Africa in Ikeja, Lagos. This VFS Global-operated new centre is another step to expedite visa processing for Nigerians seeking to visit the UK. This announcement came from the British High Commission in Lagos.

This new office in Ikeja aims to make the visa application process faster and simpler for Nigerians. This is one of the many steps the UK is taking to improve the process of applying for a visa and to make things more seamless for applicants. The centre, which opened on 19th November 2024, is the latest addition to the UK Visa Application Centres in Nigeria with existing centres at Abuja and Victoria Island Lagos.

One More Step On The Way To More Service For UK Visa Applicants in Nigeria.

The British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Jonny Baxter attended the launch of the Ikeja Centre. Baxter underscored the UK-Nigeria connection and how the new visa centre will help to bridge that gap between the two nations. He said he is glad that the Ikeja centre will open, as it will help in better services to those who are applying for UK visas.

Baxter: “I am very happy to see the construction of this, the largest visa application centre in Africa. Nigeria is still one of the UK’s key suppliers and we hope that VFS Global will deliver even better services to the people seeking visas to the UK”.
Marc Owen, Director of Visa, Status and Information Services at UK Visas and Immigration was also present at the launch. Owen referred to the new centre as an ‘outstanding step towards offering world-class visa services’. The UK has already processed more than 225,000 visa applications from Nigerian citizens in the year ending June 2024, he explained. This is a very significant number and it shows how much demand there is for UK visas among Nigerian travellers as they account for 5 % of global visit visa applications.

The Reason Why the New Visa Application Center Is Very Significant for Nigerians.

The establishment of the Ikeja Visa Application Centre will make the application process much smoother for Nigerians. This centre is bigger and better equipped than the old ones, it has more services and takes less time to review applications. And this is especially relevant as the number of Nigerian citizens applying for UK visas keeps rising.

Whether for leisure or education, professional or family trips, the UK is the number one destination for many Nigerians. Now that the centre is available, people will have more options to apply for UK visas easier and faster. This includes state-of-the-art facilities, simple application procedures and expert assistance by VFS Global professionals.
A Rising Need for UK Visas in Nigeria among Nigerians.

British High Commission says Nigerians have been filing more UK visa applications in the last couple of years. The UK remains one of Nigerians’ most frequent travel destinations, and the Ikeja Visa Application Centre was created to meet this demand.
The figures speak for themselves. More than 225,000 UK visa applications were made by Nigerians as of June 2024. That’s why Nigeria is one of the biggest markets for UK visas in Africa. The Nigerians are responsible for 5% of all visit visa requests abroad which also indicates that we need to make the visa services better in Nigeria.
